David Chartier and I saw an adult Yellow-bellied Flycatcher this morning,
between 730-830am, at the Osprey Picnic Area in Rock Canyon.  We got nice looks
at it several times, and noted the yellowish throat, green colored back, round
oval eye rings, black wings with white wing bars, and round head, all yellow
lower mandible, on a small compact empidonax.  There were a few other empidonax
species around as well, including a "Western" type and a Willow/Alder type.
The location to look for this bird is to park at the extreme east end of Osprey
Picnic Area in Rock Canyon, below Pueblo Reservoir dam.  Then walk east to the
river, and continue north, where there are a lot of olives and downed
cottonwoods that the beaver has been chewing on.  The bird stayed low, in the
olives and other small trees in this area.  You'll want to be very close to the
Arkansas River, the bird seems to be hanging out close by.  My photos of the
bird are when it was in the
shade, and only show shape and the eye ring, and wings, ect.  They don't show
the color of the bird very well.  Both David and I got good looks at the bird,
and could tell the bird had a very green back, yellow throat, and yellow
belly.
