Today we experienced "typical" Colorado weather. Opened under overcast
skies. An hour or so later, we temporarily closed the more exposed nets
because it had started to mist. By 11 a.m. we had full sun, and we were
closing because it was starting to be too hot.

Still managed to catch 51 new birds. Today was a Chipping Sparrow day; we
only caught 13, but they seemed to be everywhere, flying around eluding our
nets. All 13 CHSPs were hatch year birds; I thought about all the issues
raised regarding CHSP migration by Ted Floyd in his recent article in
Colorado Birds. Lots of quite young birds today, including a recently
fledged American Goldfinch and 2 very rowdy young Robins.

Here's the rundown:

Western Wood-pewee 2

Dusky Flycatcher 2

Cordilleran Flycatcher 1

Black-capped Chickadee 5 new, 1 banded in 2009, 1 banded in 2010

House Wren 3

American Robin 2

Gray Catbird 1

Orange-crowned Warbler 4

Yellow Warbler 8

Wilson's Warbler 6

Chipping Sparrow 13

Brewer's Sparrow 1 (FOS)

American Goldfinch 1

Looking forward to a Labor Day Weekend of birds and cooler weather!
