Went to Crown Hill Park yesterday hoping for some late Yellow-headed
Blackbirds, but assuming they were there this year, we'd missed
them.
A total of two Red-winged were the only blackbirds left.
We did see:
Pair of Swainson's Hawks calling to each other while soaring
Juv Black-crowned Night Heron
Juv Cooper's Hawk, being harassed first by some of the
many Barn and Cliff Swallows, and then relentlessly
by a female Kestrel.
A great many juvenile Wood Ducks
Belted Kingfisher
Pied-billed Grebes incl young
On the way home, to add to the many reasons to wear a motorcycle
helmet, is having to duck while riding down US-285, as another juv
Cooper's almost hit me in the head at 60mph.
