A cool, calm and fairly quiet day at Barr: 28 new birds banded; about 20
recaps from recent days.

Wilson's Warblers remain well below normal levels (in total numbers and as a
percent of the total). In recent days, our big flocks have been dominated
by Chipping Sparrows. These flocks tend to fly through later in the
morning. For example, on our closing run today, we caught 20 birds in 2
neighboring nets - a mixed flock that included 10 Chipping Sparrows, 3 House
Wrens, 1 Downy, 1 Chickadee and 2 Wilson's, 1 Orange-crowned, 1 Townsend's
and 1 Nashville Warblers.

Rundown on the new birds banded today:

Warbling Vireo 1

Black-capped Chickadee 2

House Wren 2

Orange-crowned Warbler 4

Nashville Warbler 1 (This is the 2nd Nashville of the season, an
immature female.)

Wilson's Warbler 5

Chipping Sparrow 12

Song Sparrow 1

Open 6 days per week, weather permitting. Next closed day is Friday, 9/23.
