Quiet bird-wise this final banding morning of the fall, but active with people - great to see the DFO group out! Many thanks to the12+ volunteers who made it a quick take-down and clean-up and provided plenty of food and fun for our final morning at Barr this season.
11 birds banded: Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 1 (Official last bird of the season!) Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle) 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon) 1 Song Sparrow 1 Slate-colored Junco 1 Oregon Junco 2 Pink-sided Junco 2 An unusual season - total number of individual birds caught (1,426, if I've counted right) was slightly more than last year (1,360), but the breakdown by species is going to be very different. In addition to the lack of Wilson's Warblers (228) and abundance of Chipping Sparrows (463) which I've been tracking all season, a number of other species were way up or down. I've got 2 weeks to get my data into excel, and will have a final report then.
