I am in Lamar (Prowers) for a few days. Today was cool to start (mild freeze
last night) and warmed up to the high 50's, sunny, and calm. I birded both
Fairmount and Riverside Cemeteries, the "Truck Bypass" (= CR 9.4 which loops
from US287 south of town around to the east and north to SR50 e of Walmart),
Lamar Community College Woods, went to the Ark River bridge on CR13 e of town
and drove back to town via SR196.

Highlights:
Fairmount Cemetery
Golden-crowned Kinglet (1)
Red-breasted Nuthatch (1)
Eastern Bluebird (11) on Memorial Drive about half a mile south of the cemetery

Truck Bypass
Field Sparrow (1 eastern)
Scaled Quail (1)

Lamar Community College Woods (note: Willow Creek is all but dried up due to
the drought)
Field Sparrow (1 western)
White-throated Sparrow (1a tan-striped)
Swamp Sparrow (1)
Northern Cardinal (3)
all three mimic thrushes
White-breasted Nuthatch (1 eastern)
Red-bellied Woodpecker (1)
Eastern Bluebird (few heard and seen from a distance on the east side of Willow
Creek)
Plumbeous Vireo (1) eating Rough Stinkbugs (Brachymena sp.)
Western Scrub-Jay (1, eating big black Field Crickets one after the other,
caught in the grass)
[several of the birds including cardinals, mimic thrushes, robins, and hermit
thrush were eating Virginia Creeper berries]

Riverside Cemetery
Great-tailed Grackle (few, then a flock of about 150 seen on Maple Street about
a mile east of the cemetery, mostly eating grasshoppers)

Of note, several (30+) Yellow-rumped Warblers were seen today at various
locations, almost all of them spending their time in hackberry trees getting
adult gall-making psyllids.
