After sunset, 24 October, I flushed about seven Greater Sage-Grouse on JCR
5, just under a mile N of JCR 24, and just N of JCR 5E.

This morning, 25 October, I awoke to hearing a Boreal Owl calling (about a
two second winnowing followed by 5-6 single toots) at 0710h, 0720h, and
0810h. This was along what I believe is JCR 43, N of JCR 24, and just S of
Tiago and Teal Lakes. There are two very small ponds just to the east of
the road here, but obscured by about 20 yards of trees. This same spot
later had one Western Brown Thrasher. (I swear that the thrasher had
streaked undertail coverts, but, try as I might, I could not turn it into
that other dark-brown thrasher. Has anyone else ever seen this before?
Western phenomenon?) It was nice to hear and see so many Pine Grosbeaks
here and near Buffalo Pass (which is closed!).

Lake Catamount (Routt co.) had one drake and two hen Hooded Mergansers and
at least three Red-Breasted Mergansers.
