Swamp Sparrow, 1st winter, at the southeast corner of 61st Street and Boulder Creek, north of Valmont Ave., at 3 pm today. 2 pics here: http://twilberding.zenfolio.com/p301832003/slideshow
The rest of the story: I had a few hours free to bird this afternoon. Where to go? For ideas I went to this webpage, Google Groups, Colorado Birds, and typed in “November Boulder” in the white box on the right, then clicked “Search this group.” I looked at the results and saw one dated November 4, 2008 by our esteemed colleague, Walter Szeliga, now of California I believe, wherein he spotted a Swamp Sparrow near 61st Street and Boulder Creek. So I drove over there. In about 30 seconds I had a Song Sparrow, another 30 seconds a Swamp Sparrow. Thank you, Walter! Caution: very narrow road shoulder here, fairly busy road, dangerous parking. Nice variety of ducks at Walden, Cottonwood Marsh today, 11 species my count. Good birding!
