Steve Stachowiak and I birded South Park today (Park Co.). Although we did not see any Gyrfalcons, Snow Buntings or Siberian Accentors we did have a decent day at the lakes. Antero is 99 percent frozen. The tiny hole of open water contained a few American Wigeons and American Coots. Several Bald Eagles surround the small water hole, apparently waiting for the demise of ice-locked ducks. Spinney Reservoir is about 50 percent open, mostly along the west and south sides. There are thousands of ducks, most of which are too far away to identify. We did locate 3 White-winged Scoters and 1 Black Scoter. At Eleven Mile Reservoir, we found 2 Surf Scoters, 3 White-winged Scoters, 1 Pacific Loon and 1 Common Loon. Eleven Mile is still about 90 percent open and loaded with divers!
