Greetings All,

Tim Smart and I had a spanking, relatively windless, definitely warm day in NE
Colorado.

At Sand Draw SWA:
calling COMMON RAVEN and a RL Hawk and a N Shrike

near Julesburg:
COMMON GROUND-DOVE. Take I-76 to US-287. Go n. towards Julesburg. There are two
bridges over the river. Between these, there is a road to the east and to the
west. The road to the west leads to an area closed due to deer hunting. The
road to the east leads to an island of land between the two parts of the river.
It is mostly sandy soil with a few trees, much sparse grass, and a few dense
bushes. There are several ponds and other areas where birds can drink. We
flushed the bird as we drove into this area. Tim refound it a few minutes
later. The bird was then nice enough to flee Tim, fly right into my view, and
then land 30 feet in front of me in a tree. Later, we were able to take a
leisurely look through a scope at about 50 feet. Fortunately, Glenn and other
were later to scamper from Denver to Julesburg and photograph this bird.
