hi Cobirders! On the way to retrieve my new shoe that was being
corrected I went by Mt. Olivet Cemetery . The long
narrow pond has a steep bank to the right and it was solid with
Cackling Geese and east of the big pond were two
big plots with many more Cackling Gees feeding.. When I came back by
an hour and a half later they were gone. That
was Friday.
Saturday at 11:30AM I went to the Wheat Ridge Green Belt . On
Prospect Pond there were groups of Cackling Geese
swimming. Along side one was a small duck (Green-wing Teal size)
with a long horizontal white line above the body.
But I didn't see other marks to make it Green-wing . A car behind
was being held up so I moved on. After checking
the nature trail for a while I did not find much with a strong wind
gusting to 35 mph saw only two Robins and a Blue Jay.
Checking Prospect again I could not find the little guy which
possibly was a European Common Teal so it left with
the Cackling Geese. I never had seen one in U.S. but probably in
England 35 years ago.
At home there was the local flock of Redwings up in the Locust tree
out in front. Gusts of wind now were up to 50 or 60
It was 2:30PM and I went in the backdoor (not as windy) .
It is November check for unusual birds. How about Common Ground Dove
near Julesburg. Glad I saw one some
years ago at he road east that goes to the Jackson dam. I got to see
it twice. I and many others checked the area- no luck
