On this cold, snowy morning I was hoping to find a flock of Rosy
Finches at the feeders at the Red Rocks Trading Post. However, there
was only the lone immature Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (reported
yesterday) feeding next to the adult Golden-crowned Sparrow on the
rock slab next to the upper apple tree. Both birds made several
appearances during the 45 minutes I spent at the feeders. There are
lots of birds at the feeders, so bird seed brought by visiting
birders is definitely welcome. I will be working the next couple of
days, so will not be able to make any observations. With the extreme
cold, I will throw some seed out in the dark early morning hours.
Still think we have a chance to see Rosy finches as long as it stays
cold and snow is on the ground.
I did see one of the Prairie Falcons perched on a ledge on Ship Rock
devouring it's prey. Would appreciate knowing if anyone sees both
Prairie Falcons at Red Rocks this winter.
