This afternoon I saw 3 Snow Geese flying above Dept of Corrections property
east of Canon City where they appeared to be circling to land, these are
the first white geese I have seen in this area this season. The 15 Greater
White-fronted Geese are still around--I saw them in the ag fields in front
of the dairy off of Willow St between Grand and Elm last week and on Sell's
Lake (near Canon City Riverwalk Sell's Lake parking area) late yesterday.

Over the week-end I found another adult female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on
private property and two more juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers-one at
Lakeside Cemetery and the other at the Abbey. That makes a total of 5
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers that are in Canon City now. I have uploaded
photos of the two new juveniles onto by Birds and
Nature<http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com>blog. Last year was clearly
the year of the Williamson's Sapsucker in and
around Canon City but this year is turning out to be a Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker year.

Also over the week-end I found a juvenile Prairie Falcon on the far north
side of Canon City, an area dominated by cholla and little remaining
grassland.
