On December 10, 2011, I posted a sighting of a dark-morph hawk which
Michel Kiessig and I thought might be a dark-morph Ferruginous Hawk.
Since we only had our binocs that day, we asked folks for pictures in
hopes we could confirm an ID. Rob Raker was able to take some
excellent photos of the dark-morph hawk, which was wary and difficult
to approach. After looking at the photos, I'm going to identify the
bird as a dark Harlan's Hawk. The location of the sighting was near
C470 & the Quincy Exit.
Some of Rob's pictures can be seen at http://robraker.smugmug.com in
the gallery called Rob's Hawks (1st page). Rob is out of town, but I
would be interested in comments from folks.
