Greetings All
Today at Rawhide Power Plant, near the Wyoming border, there were 5 species of geese, including 4000 Canadas (mostly Lessers), 1000 Cackling, 1 G White-fronted, 1 Ross's, and 1 "Blue". There were also 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS (first found on recent CBC), 5 Red-breasted Mergansers, 1 Western Grebe, 4 Horned Grebes -- a bunch of species that I've not seen since things have frozen up. I must have just missed Nick at L Loveland. I was there from 2:45-3:45, but birding from Taft Rd where lighting and distance were optimal. Gulls that I saw included: 450 RB Gulls 55 Herring Gulls (about 10 1st and 2nd cycles) 8 Thayer's Gulls (5 juvs and 1 adult) 2 Glaucous Gulls (likely 1st cycle) 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (ad and 3rd cycle) 1 California Gull (2nd cycle) One of the Thayer's was rather pale and speckly, starting to resemble Iceland Gull, but it had nearly solid tertials and a nice secondary bar in flight. Also, 4 Wood Ducks at the NE corner of the lake were nice to see Good Birding Steven Mlodinow Longmont CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
