Yesterday, Jan 1, my wife saw a northern pygmy-owl at Red Rocks Park in El
Paso County; off Hwy 24 - just west of 31st street. It was seen at the large
pond, sitting in a cottonwood. I have always thought that this place (since
it opened a few years ago) should be perfect for little owls. Loads of thick
junipers to roost in; against steep canyon walls; open fields to hunt; water
sources, etc. To-date - this is the first one seen.

Up in Teller County, near the town of Divide, Rosy-Finches have returned. As
many as 150+ show up each morning 8:30-9:30-ish, in the same neighborhood as
reported last year. To date, I have only seen one black and the rest
gray-crowned.
