Folks-

I spent the day fly-fishing the Arkansas (65-degrees!) below Pueblo Res
today, and had a little time to bird. I saw the Greater Roadrunner (found
on the CBC) multiple times without really looking, hanging around near
Valco Bridge. I looked for the Northern Cardinal between the bridge and the
Nature Center but I couldn't turn it up. No Rusty Blackbirds either, but I
admit I was more focused on fish than birds. Above Valco bridge (38.261912,
-104.696037) I found a WINTER WREN, which I ID'd by voice. I actually
listened to it for a few minutes BEFORE I even looked at it, which seems to
not really be all that helpful with these buggers. I'm starting to wonder
about the call notes as well, which is why I performed this little
experiment. This time at least, the bird sounded and looked like a Winter
Wren...

The South Shore Marina tires were packed with gulls, and I likely missed
something (Mew Gull?), but I managed to pick out everything reported
earlier in the week:

Thayer's Gull-- at least 7 adults
Herring Gull-- more than I cared to count
Ring-billed Gull-- ditto
California Gull-- 2
Glaucous Gull-- 2 1st cycle
Great Black-backed Gull-- 2.5 (2 adults)
Lesser Black-backed Gull-- 4.5 (2 adults, 2 1st cycle)

A note on fractions: The hybrid gull that Brandon found some time ago was
still present, and I understand this has been called a Herring X Great
Black-backed; and there was another hybrid thing which I'm pretty sure was
at least part Lesser Black-backed, but since I am not afflicted with
larophilia as some are...I left this bird's other part(s) unidentified.

Enjoy,
