Hey all, I read Dave Leatherman's post about the Eastern Screech Owl at Grandview Cemetery and it reminded me that my wife and I had found one in a nest hole yesterday morning (1/9) in a cottonwood tree at North Shields Pond. The owl was out of the hole pecking at a branch as I noticed it, then it saw me and backed down into the hole. We sat across from the tree for about 15 to 20 minutes and it poked it's head out to see if we had left. It saw us and ducked back down, so we left. I will continue to check this tree over the next few weeks to see if the owl sticks around.
It was fun to show my wife a screech owl after finding our first Long- eared Owl at Wellington SWA on Sunday morning!
