As expected, when the lousy weather left, so did the Rosy-Finches. They ONLY come down when it is snowing or has snowed a lot. They were here for two days running this time...the second day had no snow, but biter cold, icy conditions, hoar frost and fog; it worked. Thankfully, the Aiken Audubon group which came down in spite of icy roads on Saturday...got to see them!
However, with the sun returning and grassy patches back, they are gone again; none were here on Sunday. The later into the winter, the longer they will stay each visit. I imagine it has to do with how much snow is up on the Spanish Peaks (behind my house). If you'd like to try for them and happen to be in the area during bad weather (or don't mind driving in snow), give me a call to ensure they're here: Beverly Jensen, 719-742-3195 (PLEASE leave a number if I don't pick right up) La Veta, Huerfano Co, CO RuralChatter.blogspot.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
