Hello, Birders.

Andrew and I jaunted around north-central Boulder County this afternoon,
Friday, March 2nd, and we found:

* along the west shore of McCall Lake, in a shrub at 40.203081 N 105.206434 W,
a Harris's Sparrow. It was hanging out in a flock of Slate-colored Juncos,
Pink-sided Juncos, and Gambel's White-crowned Sparrows.

* at Boulder Rez, along the north shore, an amazing chorus of 477 Redheads. The
late-winter chorusing of Redheads is one of the great natural phenomena of
Colorado. Not to be missed.

* at Boulder Rez, and especially at Clover Basin Reservoir, HOT PINK
Ring-billed Gulls. They're baa-ack. Well, okay, they never really left. But
2012 is looking to be the best showing since 2003. Learn more about HOT PINK
Ring-billed Gulls here:

"The Peculiar Puzzle of the Pink Ring-billed Gulls," by Lisa Hardy; Birding,
October, 2003, pp. 498-504. Lisa's article is the best ever in Birding. For
real. See:

* in Lafayette, after sundown, a marvelous showing of Mercury, which is the
most glorious object in the material universe. Should be excellent for the next
few nights. Look straight west, very low in the horizon, 6:45-7:00 p.m.
