I heard a Broad-tailed Hummingbird in my yard on sunday,4/8. I went around the
corner of my house to see if it was feeding on the flowering Redbud tree[which
is in full bloom 3 weeks earlier than other years]. I did not see the hummer.
This Hummingbird is the earliest arrival ever at my house [for Hummigbirds].
They usually arrive when my Redbud usually blooms, which in past years is
around 5/7-9. White-crowned Sparrows and Spotted Towhees have been singing for
at least 2 weeks now. I saw a Say's Phoebe flycatching near my house on 3/28.
I do not know if this was one who wintered over or one who had just arrived.
There is usually 1, Say's Phoebe who winters near Marston Lake. Yes, the
Collared Doves are very common this year. There still does not seem to be an
issue with them and the Morning Doves. Two weeks ago I drastically saw a
difference in Morning Dove numbers in my yard. I had about 32 Morning Doves
daily this winter, who managed to evade the Cooper's Hawk. Two weeks ago the
Morning Dove numbers in my yd were down to 8 individuals and there is only 1
pair in my yd now. Like the Morning Doves, the Bushtits are now down to one
pair verses 19-20 in a wintering group, which stopped by almost daily. Happy
