Greetings All,

Sorry about my last post not being to form. I forgot that I was not simply
sending it to a bunch of Boulder County birders.
So, most of my time has been spent ratting around my usual haunts in Weld
County.

Perhaps the best has been the newly created pond (within last year or so) on
the east side of Weld County Road 7, just north of CO 119. This is along the
entrance road to St Vrain St Pk and is indeed part of the park. It is difficult
to access. One needs to park at the entrance gate, then hoof it back about 1/2
mile to the pond. Lighting is best in the morning. There have been nearly 2000
birds in this pond of late, about half of which have been Gadwall and Am Coots.
However, there are hundreds of scaup and N Shoveler as well as a goodly
assortment of other waterfowl. Highlights over the last couple days have been:
1 male MEXICAN DUCK (paired with an oddball thing I can't ID, but probably has
some Mexican Duck and some Mallard)
1 male MALLARD x GADWALL
1 MARBLED GODWIT

Across Weld Co Rd 7 from this pond, to the west, the rookery now has about 90
Great Blue Herons and 20 Great Egrets present. And yes, the pond at the corner
of Weld CR 7 and CO 119 has a Mute Swan, which has been there for about 2 weeks.

Other highlights from today (besides the already posted Bewick's Wren) include
a pair of copulating Burrowing Owls (I am a voyeur, alas) and a BLUE-WINGED x
CINNAMON TEAL near L Latham Reservoir and 9 Black-necked Stilts + 22
Long-billed Dowitchers at Weld County Road 59 Ponds near Kersey.

Good Birding
