Greetings All,

Today, Larry Arnold and I started along the Grand Junction's Connected Lakes. A
Plumbeous Vireo there, a tad early, represented nearly the only passerine
migrant. So, we headed up to Glade Park, just south of which (in the
sage/grasslands) we had Black-throated, Sage, and Brewer's Sparrows. Getting up
into vast aspen woodlands, with a scattering of Ponderosa Pines, we encountered
a couple very interesting birds just south of Mud Spring Campground:

1- A Pink-sided Junco performing distraction displays, as if it had started
nesting nearby...
2- A brilliant lutescens race Orange-crowned Warbler. This is the race that
breeds along the Pacific Coast, but has a wintering range that suggest that
some individuals might pass through CO.

On my way home, I stopped at Rose (I think I got that right) and 8th in
Georgetown, the yard at which the Rufous-collared Sparrow had inhabited. I was
rather surprised to find a male INDIGO BUNTING at the feeder.

Finally, a House Finch in that yard had incorporated part of the
Rufous-collared Sparrows song into its warblings!!!

Good Birding
