COBirders,

I was going to wait until the end of the day to post this, but yesterday
when I was birding at the amazing migrant trap, Chico Basin Ranch (fee
area), there were tens of thousands (probably way more) of miller moths in
the trees, on the ground, in my car, and in my nose, mouth, and ears. You
get the picture. They are migrating from the plains to the mountains early
this year and the migrant passerines I was watching were feasting on them
(is it okay to say I saw Brandon's Kentucky Warbler and more common species
eating miller moths) as migrant birds did last year during May. For whatever
reason the moths seemed most numerous on and beneath peach leaf willows. On
my way home while driving along I-25, I hit two migrating swarms of moths
near Fountain, Colorado, masses pinging against my windshield and when I
opened the door to my apartment, a handful whooshed inside as did I.
