Hello,

In the next week or two, I will be making a birding trip through Eastern
Colorado, for migrants and local specialties. I will be driving from
Laramie, WY, with the final destination of Cottonwood Canyon in SE
Colorado. Targets for the trip Mississippi Kite, Black Rail, and Lewis's
Woodpecker, along with any rare or uncommon migrant warblers, herps, and
other interesting fauna.

My questions are as followed

1) What would people consider the key/best migrant traps along this route?
I will be stopping at Wyoming Hereford Ranch, but have only limited
experience birding Colorado in migration. I have checked out the county
birding page of the CFO, which lists lots of places, but I will probably
only have 4 days, so I can't hit up each and every migrant spot.

2) Are there any places either in SE Colorado or adjacent Colorado where I
can find Lesser Prairie Chicken without visiting a Lek? I know the campo
lek is closed, and I seldom here of many reports away from leks in peak
breeding season.

3) On a nonbird note, does anyone have any recommendations for a good site
for Spotted Ground Squirrel? This has been a nemesis mammal for me, and I
would be interested if anyone has any proven sites in Eastern Colorado for
this critter

Any other help would also be appreciated, especially on target birds, would
be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any assistance, and please
feel free to contact me off list if responses are not considered
appropriate for the list.
