In that I understand there will be a couple of field-trips from the
CFO convention making a Walsenburg-La Veta loop which will include my
yard, I thought I'd let you all know what one might expect here
then.

In the last couple of weeks, I've seen: Lazuli Bunting, Black-headed
Grosbeak, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Bullock's Oriole, Broad-tailed
Hummingbird, Scott's Oriole, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Belted
Kingfisher, lots of Cassin's Finch, a Spotted Towhee, Yellow-headed
Blackbirds, Lesser Goldfinch (green- and black-backed)...dozens and
dozens of Evening Grosbeak. The Kingfishers have been hunting my pond
(with my blessing); maybe we'll see one go fishing!

In another couple weeks I may be able to add both Rufus and Calliope
hummers, Indigo Bunting, Yellow and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Western
Tanagers, Western Wood-Pewee, House Wren, White-winged Dove, Chipping
Sparrow, Black Phoebe,...as most of these are quite reliable here; in
addition to all the 'regulars' with which everyone is familiar. Once
each, I have spotted an American Redstart and a Red-breasted Nuthatch
here, too.

The field trips here are Friday & Saturday, May 18 & 19th...I'll keep
the feeders stocked, the pond full and the nectar & oranges
available! Or, as sometimes happens when visitors come, we might see
an accipiter or falcon stop by for a meal while we watch. Great
fun...
