On the south shore of Highland Lake, there is what appears to be a large Egret
or similar bird. Similar in size and shape to the Great Blue Herons that hang
out at the lake all summer. I couldn't get close, it was too shy. It looks to
be all white with maybe a yellow bill, black legs. No color, except white that
I could see anywhere else. I didn't have my binoculars so couldn't get a closer
look.

When it spotted me, it flew toward the southwest shore and chased a Great Blue
Heron away.

We used to get a few of these every year, but I haven't seen anything like it
at the lake for years, maybe more than a decade.

There are several American Pelican's on the lake, but this does not resemble
them at all. Any ideas as to what it is?

Highland Lake is privately owned but is open to the public. There is no charge
to park and walk around the lake. There is a charge to fish or rent or take a
boat out.

Thanks,
Pauli Smith
