On my way to my Brush and Yuma area BBS routes Saturday, I stopped at the Riverside Park in Fort Morgan. While walking the trail along the South Platte, I heard a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Attempting to get a glimpse of the elusive bird, I was distracted by another call. The author of this call was less shy than the cuckoo and gave me a brief glimpse, confirming it was a Great Crested Flycatcher. Further along the trail, I heard the bird again, along with another one answering. I followed the two for some time getting good looks. The birds appeared to be paired.
Today while returning from the BBS routes, I stopped again at the park. Though it was early afternoon, the cuckoo obliged with another call. The flycatchers did not put in an appearance, but a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak filled in for them. -- Chuck Hundertmark 2546 Lake Meadow Drive Lafayette, CO 80026 303-604-0531 Cell: 720-771-8659 [email protected] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
