What a day for woodpeckers. We saw five species travelling from San Isabel to
Beulah on CO Highway 78 today.

Just as we turned off CO Hwy 165 near San Isabel we saw two Northern Flickers.
Three-and-a-half miles further up the road we got fabulous views of a male
Williamson Sapsucker. A mile before we got to Pueblo Mountain Park we saw a
male Hairy woodpecker.

At Pueblo Mountain Park we were greeted by a N. Flicker and a female Downy
woodpecker at the Environmental Center. We parked along the rail fence facing a
large dead pine, got out our sandwiches and for nearly an hour watched two
Acorn woodpeckers return repeatedly to the tree.

We also had great views of Violet-Green Swallows landing on trees in the bright
sunlight. Very nice.

Other birds along highway 78 included:
Green-tailed Towhee
Black-headed Grosbeak
Gray-headed Junco
Mountain Bluebird
Western Bluebird
Western Wood-pewee
Chipping Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler (just one)
Robin
WB Nuthatch
Pygmy Nuthatch
Broad-tailed Hummingbird
Common Raven
American Crow
Turkey Vulture
Lesser Goldfinch
Black-billed Magpie
Blue Grosbeak

Good birding, everyone.
