Thought I would provide an update on some of the Indigo Bunting
sightings in Bear Creek Lake Park (BCLP) and Red Rocks.
Indigo Bunting located just east of Muskrat Meadows in BCLP - both
above the road and below the road
1. May 28 -first reported by Sherman Wing - pictures submitted
2. late May and early June - seen by Mike Henwood
3. July 15-25 - reported by Alison Kondler at least three times
4. July 27 - seen and heard by Mike H. and Rhonda Kelly
5. July 28 - extensive effort by Rob Raker and Mike H. to document
breeding (unsuccessful),although the male was seen and heard singing
again. There is also at least one male Lazuli Bunting in the same
area, which is often seen in close proximity to the male Indigo
Bunting.
Indigo x Lazuli cross - on the ridge just south and west of the
sidewalk from Skunk Hollow to the footbridge across Bear Creek.

3. July 27 -seen by Rhonda Kelly, Rob Raker, and Mike H.
Each time the Indigo x Lazuli was viewed, there were other singing
male Lazuli Buntings in the immediate vicinity.

July 18 - first seen by Rob Raker prior to a Red Rocks concert.
July 27 - seen by Rhonda Kelly, Rob Raker , and Mike H. while watching
the Peregrine Falcons (2 adults plus one youngster).
It appears that the Indigo Buntings have been here for the summer,
although I have not been able to document breeding.
