Adams County:
--A Little Blue Heron in transitional phase plumage was reported by
Canter
at Lowell Ponds SWA on July 19. It was along the shore and on the island
of Heron Lake. Lowell Ponds is at 56th and Lowell. Gonder reported the
Little Blue Heron at Lowell and Clear Creek on July 22. On July 26,
Canter
reported the Little Blue at Clear Creek and Lowell. On July 29 Gillilan
reported the Little Blue Heron at the eastern edge of Lowell Ponds. On
August 4, Canter reported that the Little Blue Heron was at Heron Lake --
both on the shore and on the island. Heron Lake is the largest Eastern
most lake at Lowell Ponds. On August 5, Gilbert reported the Little Blue
Heron on Clear Creek W of the bridge. On August 7 Deininger reported
seeing the Little Blue Heron on the island in Heron Lake. On August 11,
Smart refound the Little Blue Heron at Lowell Ponds. On August 12,
Hutch reported seeing the Little Blue Heron on the island in Heron Lake.
On August 13 Gilbert reported that the Little Blue Heron was on the shore
of the island in Heron Lake.
Boulder County:
--A Fox Sparrow was observed by Kippes at Fawn Brook Inn in Allenspark on
August 4.
--A Green Heron and Northern Waterthrush were reported by Floyd at Walden
Ponds on August 11.
--An adult Short-billed Dowitcher was reported by Floyd at Panama
Reservoir
on August 12.
Clear Creek County:
--On morning of August 2, Coley reported that the Barrow's Goldeneye
family
at Echo Lake was down to 4 ducklings but Griffin reported that at noon on
August 2, there were 6 ducklings with mama at Echo Lake. On August 7,
Deininger reported 4 ducklings in the Barrow's Goldeneye family at Echo
Lake.
Fremont County:
--A LEAST BITTERN was flushed by Rich Miller from cattails along the S
shore of Holcim Wetlands on July 26. On August 12, Chartier
refound the the LEAST BITTERN by scanning the reeds from the east side.
Jefferson County:
--A Northern Cardinal was reported by Mayfield at Prospect Park in Wheat
Ridge on August 1. The Cardinal was S of the boardwalk that runs through
the marsh east of West Lake.
--A Green Heron was reported by Mayfield on August 1 on the west side of
Prospect Lake on the little platform dock with cormorants and Canada
Geese.
Logan County:
--A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported by Mark Peterson on an
unnamed pond west of Jumbo on August 12.
Morgan County:
--A Rose-breasted Grosbeak was reported by Retzer SW of Jackson Lake on
Hwy
34 on August 4.
Prowers County:
--At Lamar Community College Woods on August 1, Leatherman reported 3
Northern Cardinals (2m,1f).
--A Red-bellied Woodpecker was reported by Charier at the N end of Willow
Creek Park in Lamar on July 28. Leatherman reported Red-bellied
Woodpecker
at Willow Creek Park and neighborhood E of park on August 1.
--White-winged Doves were reported by Leatherman in Willow Valley
neighborhood E of Willow Creek Park on August 1.
Pueblo County:
--2 ACORN WOODPECKERS first reported by Van Manen in Pueblo Mountain Park
on June 16 were relocated by Percival on August 1. They were in the big
dead tree at Horseshoe Lodge Parking Lot. Percival also reported 2
Grace's
Warblers and a singing male Hooded Warbler close to the parking lot on
the
left past the old basketball court on August 1. On August 2, Lewis
refound
the ACORN WOODPECKERS below the dead tree. On August 3, Witters reported
one ACORN WOODPECKER and Grace's and Hooded Warbler at Pueblo Mt Park. On
August 4, Moss reported that the ACORN WOODPECKER pair were feeding young
at the nest in the big dead tree. On August 13, Moss reported that the
ACORN WOODPECKER pair continued in the park but were not feeding young.
Teller County:
--A m Indigo Bunting and 3 White-winged Doves were reported by Jeff Jones
at Manitou Lake on August 9.
Washington County:
--2 Dunlin were reported by Norm Lewis at Prewitt on August 9.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, August 18 will be to the Wheat Ridge
Greenbelt led by Jackie King ( 303-287-1644
<%28303-287-1644>).
Meet the leader at Prospect
Park near public restrooms at 0730 at Clear Creek in Wheat Ridge. Go
south
from West 44th between Quail and Robb Streets. Half day trip, easy
walking, accessible for mobility imparied individuals. Bring Water and a
snack, lunch optional. Good trip for novice birders and new members.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, August 19 will be to Chatfield State Park
led by Harriet Stratton ( 303-798-9924 <%28303-798-9924>).
Meet the leader just inside the
park entrance off S. Wadsworth, 1.5 miles south of C-470. State Parks
Pass required. This will be a half-day trip so lunch is option but bring
water and a snack.
