Dear COBIRDERS:

The president of the Colorado Hawking Club was sent an e-mail and several
photos yesterday morning of a "hawk" on the deck of a home near the
intersection of Simms and Marlow in Littleton. The bird had a 6 ft long red
tether of some kind attached to at least one leg and the owner of the
property was understandably concerned that the bird had escaped from its
owner.

It turns out the bird is actually an adult chukar; why it has this red
leash/tether is beyond me, but the bird had taken off before anyone from our
Club could assist the owner, and before he could catch it.

Tangling and predation issues aside, the bird may be someone's escaped
backyard "pet". I do have photos if anyone would like to e-mail me
privately. The homeowner where the bird was seen is also willing to be
contacted for more information. In the meantime, if this bird can possibly
be sighted and caught, at least it might be returned to a more suitable
habitat.

Many thanks,
