Although I live in Washington DC, I do try and get out to Colorado frequently. I will be in the Vail area this weekend, and have half a day to go birding. I will be driving up from Denver the night before. I have looked through the county birding hotspots, but was wondering if anyone had any quick suggestion on how I might spend Sunday morning this time of year. I will have a car and willing to drive. Just want to enjoy getting out and seeing a few birds. Any thoughts appreciated.

I had a nice time out at Walden Ponds, Boulder County, early this Saturday morning, Aug. 11th. Stuff I found out there: 30 Wood Ducks, 1 American Bittern, 1 Green Heron, 2 Black-crowned Night-Herons, 1 Osprey, 11 Wilson's Snipes, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 1 Northern Waterthrush, 1 MacGillivray's Warbler, 1 Vesper Sparrow, 1 Blue Grosbeak, and 1 Bullock's Oriole. A nice push by some of the common, early-season migrants: lots of Eastern Kingbirds, Western Wood-Pewees, Chipping Sparrows (incl. a FOSAFF juvenile), Common Yellowthroats, and especially Yellow Warblers.
