Ready for a real break in the heat! A couple of nice hours in the early
morning, and then the heat sets in....

It was quiet all morning except for one big flock of Wilson's Warblers that
moved through about 8:30 a.m. Here's the breakdown for the day:

Warbling Vireo 1 return, banded last year

House Wren 1

Hermit Thrush 1 (FOS)

Townsend's Warbler 5

Wilson's Warbler 27

Green-tailed Towhee 1

Chipping Sparrow 2

Dark-eyed Junco 1 (FOS...closing run of the day, probably 85
degrees, all but the nets in the deep shade already closed, and we are
catching a Junco?? FOS last year was 9/24. We spent some time trying to ID
this HY by subspecies-not quite either a slate-colored or pink-sided.)

We have solidified our closed days for the balance of September, and they
are easy to remember!! Wednesdays! So, for September, open 6 mornings per
week, weather permitting. Closed Wednesdays (9/12, 9/19, and 9/26). The
banding season will end on Oct 14, and we should have the Oct closed dates
by the end of this week.
