I went out today at lunch to see if some of the birds that Steve encountered in Holyok were also working along the front range. I went to the fisherman's parking area at the south end of Sharp Point Drive. Amost immediately after starting along the paved bike path towards the Environmental Learning Center. I heard a warbler-like chip coming from ahead near the first foot bridge. I discivered two fall Blackpoll Warblers working the willows along the large pond on the left. They flew across the bike path to the medium sized trees (sorry Dave I couldn't identify what type) along the feeder canal coming off of the river. As I wrote notes on the plumage characteristics, including the pale feet with darker legs and blackish wings with white wing bars, they went silent and disappeared. I looked for another 10-15 minutes but could not refind. I also have 3-4 BC Chickadees, 1 Belted Kingfisher flying over the bike path and one possible Hairy Woodpecker (heard only) in the riparian area. That is all. Rather dead compared with out east. It appears that the plethora of House Wrens that frequented that area have all moved out.
