This morning at Last Chance was spectacular! Mark Chavez and I were there for
about 3 hours, starting around 8:30am. There were large numbers of birds
around the pond area and adjacent draws (SW quadrant of the intersection), as
well as good numbers of birds across the street in the NE quadrant of the
intersection. The highlights included:

Sora – 1
Common Nighthawk – 3
Blue-headed Vireo – 1
Philadelphia Vireo – 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch – 5
House Wren – 2
Winter Wren – 1
Marsh Wren – 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet – 10+
Townsend’s Solitaire – 2
Hermit Thrush – 10+
Gray Catbird – 1
Brown Thrasher – 2
Cedar Waxwing – 6
Orange-crowned Warbler – 20+
Yellow-rumped Warbler – 20+
Townsend’s Warbler – 1
Palm Warbler – 1
Wilson’s Warbler – 30+
Common Yellowthroat – 10+
Clay-colored Sparrow – 1
Lincoln’s Sparrow – 10+
White-throated Sparrow – 2
White-crowned Sparrow – 10+

I’m excluding many other more common species, and probably forgetting some
others, but this list encompasses the highlights. Photos of some of these
goodies will be posted soon on my Flickr site, in the “2012 Colorado” set, at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kirkh1/sets/72157630027506675/. It was truly an
exceptional morning at Last Chance.

At a private ranch in Lincoln Co., we also had a few good birds for the season,
although nothing like Last Chance. Here are the highlights:
Red-naped Sapsucker – 1
Prairie Falcon – 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher – 1
MacGillivray’s Warbler – 1

Good Birding,
