The weather predictors got it wrong today..Not close to "58 and partly
sunny"! It was cold and gray when we opened at 6:40 and colder and getting
damp about 3 hours later when we gave up because it was just too cold for
both birds and humans. Did have a couple of cool birds, including our first
Winter Wren (this is the 12th ever at the station - we had 4 in 2010, and
the rest between 1992-2005) and our 2nd Golden-crowned Kinglet of the
season.

Spent the balance of the morning showing school kids White-crowned Sparrows
and House Finches that were attacking the Nature Center feeders with great
gusto; this is reflected in our total numbers for the day:

White-breasted Nuthatch 1

Winter Wren 1

Golden-crowned Kinglet 1

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2

Hermit Thrush 4

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 2

Song Sparrow 1

White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 10

Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 1

Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1

House Finch 2

Again, a reminder - This is our last week; we will take down the station
after banding on Sunday. We are closed on Thursday, and on Friday we are
doing a Science in
Action program with DMNS (broadcasting from the field into classrooms) and
thus it will not be a good day to visit. So, really only 3 days left!
