This AM (10/8) the most interesting mountain bird was a dark morph Red-tailed Hawk at Shaw Lake, above Big Meadows Res. I would appreciate someone's telling me, please, relative to the red-tails down in the San Luis Valley. Lakes had only some very common stuff and very little of it. At higher el., a Pine Grosbeak. At lower el., a Cooper's Hawk, Fox Sparrow, plenty of juncos (Slate-colored), Gray Jay, etc.. Just a nice day to enjoy the last patches of aspen color. Virginia Simmons, Del Norte
