For the third fall-winter in a row, a Golden-crowned Sparrow is frequenting the windbreak of planted junipers at the N. Teller Farms parking lot (Valmont Rd, just west of 95th St). The bird is in adult non-breeding plumage. As the general date for the arrival of this species at our latitude is around the first half of October, after work I went to see if this individual might have arrived. Alas I observed it today around 6pm with a juv. White-crowned Sparrow. Amazing fidelity to this winter spot if it's the same bird, seemingly to coincidental not to be.
