In reply to Deborah Sparn's question (on Oct 9) regarding latest 
dates for Common Nighthawk in Boulder County:

The records of the Boulder County Wildlife Inventory, maintained 
by Boulder County Audubon Society, from 1978 to the present show that 
in most years the last report of Common Nighthawk occurs near the 
very end of August.

There are a few September reports, typically from the city of Boulder 
or the east of the county --- including 1993 Sep 28, 1995 Sep 24, 
1999 Sep 22, 2006 Sep 9, and 2007 Sep 2.

However, the VERY LATEST REPORT is from 1988 NOVEMBER 12 with 
one bird reported from Area 42 (the foothills area immediately west 
of Boulder that includes the Walker Ranch open space) by Marilyn 
and Richard Hudson, who lived in that area and were very familiar 
with both Common Nighthawk and Common Poorwill. They regularly reported 
both species during the summer months.
