Today, Elena Klaver and I took a tour of Boulder/w. Weld County reservoirs and ponds. The route was Panama Reservoir Union Reservoir Ish Reservoir Terry Lake Clark Lake Lake McIntosh (McIntosh Reservoir) Clover Basin Reservoir Lagerman Reservoir Boulder/Sixmile Reservoirs Baseline Reservoir Waneka L Erie Reservoir Little Gaynor Lake Frederick Rec Area Firestone Gravel Pits The headliners are the DUNLIN at the west side of Panama Res, viewed from the s., as posted earlier today, and a female WW Scoter on Boulder Reservoir. Though really, by far the rarest bird was a PACIFIC DOWNY WOODPECKER, a bird that had nearly no spotting on the wings and was dusky below, that came in close for some sweet views, and then disappeared when camera appeared. There has been a major influx of "late fall" arrivals over the last few days, with moderately large numbers of Lesser Scaup and modest numbers of Canvasback at multiple locations that held none a week ago. Also, Redheads arrived in droves, with our day total approximating 1000. Bufflehead went from a few here and there to a day total of about 60. Bonaparte's Gulls were noted at Terry Lake, McIntosh, and Union Some FOF for me were Common Loon (Terry Lake and Baseline Res) Greater Scaup (Erie Res and Firestone) Common Goldeneye (Firestone) Red-breasted Merganser (Sixmile Res) On the getting late side were 13 Least Sands at Union and a BW Teal at Firestone.
