Can we call Cheyenne, WY (Laramie County) an "annex" of Colorado, and therefore
legitimize a post to COBIRDS? [Todd, let me know if this is not OK.]
Wyoming Hereford Ranch (Laramie County just south of the Campstool Exit on I-80
e of downtown Cheyenne)
Lesser Goldfinch (1 winter male) this seems pretty late
Dark-eyed Junco (several including 2 white-winged)
Harris's Sparrow (1 imm) on the roof of the Sale Barn with the two
white-winged juncos - go figure
White-throated Sparrow (1 imm)
Hermit Thrush (1 of what appeared to be the normal RM race)
Mountain Chickadee (2 in the pines that line the long entrance drive (these
trees are always worth checking))
Chipping Sparrow (1) getting late
[thought I might have heard a Common Redpoll in with a couple siskins but they
flew off before I could glass them]
Otherwise very unbirdy (no warblers, solitaires, crossbills, and not a single
White-crowned Sparrow)
Lakeview Cemetery (south section which is se of Pershing and Seymour)
White-throated Sparrow (1a)
Chipping Sparrow (2)
Mountain Chickadee (2)
Dark-eyed Junco (2 more white-wings)
Lion's Park (including the Botanic Garden grounds and the walk around Sloan's
Lake)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (at least 10, hawking insects around the Botanic Garden
building)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (eating Giant Willow Aphids from stems of willow along the
lake)
Winter Wren (1 under the boardwalk (I dare you not to be singing the song) that
goes across the bullrush wetland in the nw corner of the lake
[Swamp Sparrow - pretty sure I heard one call once near the location of the
wren, never could see it]
Lincoln's Sparrow (1 near the wren)
Mountain Chickadee (3)
Red-breasted Nuthatch (2)
[Huge unidentified bird which strongly resembled a C-130 Hercules kept trying
to migrate e to w over Sloan's Lake, came around, and tried again (at least 15
times)]
