They were on the S shore near the W end of Lakeshore Drive. They were on the shore then flew into bushes and then to trees. --5 Bohemian Waxwings with Cedar Waxwings were reported by Mark Miller near 63rd and Gunbarrel Ave on November 13. Douglas/Jefferson Counties: --On November 11 at Chatfield SP Walbek reported Red Phalarope, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Harris's Sparrow, Lapland Longspur and Stachowiak reported Pacific Loon and Rusty Blackbird. El Paso County: --At Fountain Creek Regional Park on November 10, Pals reported ad Harris's Sparrow at the nature center feeders, White-throated Sparrow near the Culvert at Duckwood Road Parking Lots, and Swamp Sparrow by the bridge in NW end of nature center pond. On November 11 at Fountain Creek RP, Gloria Nikolai reported White-throated Sparrow and Harris's Sparrow. They were W of the Gazebo. --A Tundra Swan was found by Bill Maynard at the S end of Rice's Pond in Fountain Creek RP on November 13. Fremont County: --A juv YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported by Moss at Centennial Park in Canon City on November 14. Garfield County: --2 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by McConnell at Rifle Gap SP on November 13. Huerfanco County: --On November 13 an ad basic BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was reported by Rich Miller at Lake Martin in Lathrop SP. On November 14 Miller reported a juv BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE at Lake Martin. --On November 15 at Martin Lake in Lathrop SP, Neldner reported a juv Pacific Loon. Neldner reported that the Pacific Loon was in the same place on November 16 and it was on November 15. Jefferson County: --Henwood reported on November 16 that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW continues at Red Rocks Trading Post. Larimer County: --Common Redpolls were reported by Judie Wright on November 8 at Lily Lake in Rocky Mt NP and Rashid refound 21 of them at 4:30 pm on the S side of the trail that goes around the lake. On November 9, Pautsch relocated the Common Redpolls on the S end of the lake. Stay near the small bridge and watch for movement near the bridge. On November 10, Starrett reported that the Common Redpolls had moved to the N side of the lake towards the west end near water's edge. On November 12, Henwood reported that the Common Redpolls were on the S side of the lake near the footbridge. On November 13, Pieplow reported 7-8 Common Redpolls at Lily Lake about a couple hundred yards S of the parking lot under construction near lakeshore. On November 14, Kilpatrick reported 28-30 Common Redpolls on the S side of the lake. --A juv GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW has been visiting the yard of Sean Walters in South Loveland since November 10. If you would like to try for the bird please contact him at waltersintherockies AT gmail.com. The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW returned on November 13 and was observed by several birders. Walters reported that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW returned to the yard on November 16. --A probable juv YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported by Mammoser at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 14. Las Animas County: --A female type Surf Scoter was reported by Rich Miller at Trinidad Lake SP on November 14. Lincoln County: --A pair of Common Redpolls was reported by Mark Peterson at Kinney Lake SWA on November 12. Mesa County: --25 Long-tailed Ducks were reported by Bowden on the 29 Rd River Front trail in Grand Junction on November 13. Montrose County: --Black Rosy-Finches and Brown-capped Rosy-Finches were reported by Amber Carver at the gas station in Cimarron on November 12. The birds were feeding around the pumps. Pueblo County: --On November 14 in the middle of Pueblo Reservoir, Percival reported Red-necked Grebe. --On November 15 at Pueblo Reservoir Percival reported 2 Pacific Loons and 1 Red-throated Loon and 1 ad Lesser Black-backed Gull by the S shore marina tires. Rio Blanco County: --Korte reported that the Tundra Swan continues on a pond S of the intersection of Hwy 13 and Hwy 64 W of Meeker on November 15. Routt County: --3 Common Redpolls were reported by Craig Dodson at Stagecoach Reservoir on November 11. Summit County: --Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Nick Moore at Dillon Reservoir on November 10. Weld County: --Lapland Longspurs were reported by Lefko along CR 100 between CR 23 and 27 on November 13. --At CR 100 about 1.2 miles W of CR 57 (i.e. W of Norma's Grove where Coal Creek crosses CR 100) Leatherman reported 4 Common Redpolls and 100+ Lapland Longspurs on November 15. --On November 16, Hess reported 20 Common Redpolls on CR 57 N of Hwy 14 and Lapland Longspurs along CR 57 & CR 100. The DFO field trip for Saturday, November 17 will be to Roxborough State Park led by Doris Cruze (303-798-8072). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Visitor's Center for a 3.5 mile walking tour on an easy trail. Participants should see golden eagles and species common in the foothills. State Parks Pass required. Lunch will be optional but there is a beautiful place to sit on the patio and watch the birds as you eat lunch. Take S. Wadsworth Blvd, past Chatfield SP to Waterton Rd on left. Take Waterton Rd 1.5 miles east to North Rampart Range Rd. Turn right and go south 2.3 miles to Roxborough Park Rd. Turn left and follow signs to the park (2.2 miles). This is an excellent trip for novice birders and new members. The DFO field trip for Sunday, November 18 will be to Denver City Park led by Chuck Hundertmark (303-604-0531). Meet the leader at parking strip SW of 22nd Ave just north of Ferril Lake. From Colorado Blvd, turn west onto 22nd Ave, go past the Musuem of Nature and Science, Turn left just before the zoo at the sign to the Pavilion Bandstand. Park on the left at the end of the parking area closest to Ferril Lake. Will check the lakes for early winter water birds and check trees to see what empty nests we can spot. An easy morning walk. Bring water, snacks, two-way radios, binoculars and scopes optional. Half day trip. Limit of 10 participants.
