It was brisk 18 degrees here in La Veta this morning. While having our
morning coffee and nursing our Thanksgiving food hangovers while watching
our feeders we saw:
3 Harris's Sparrows
1 White-throated Sparrow
2 Lewis's Woodpeckers (we have been seeing them quite frequently close to
the yard, so we are hoping they will stay for awhile)
25-30 Evening Grosbeaksd

After our Turkey Day gluttony we decided it was time to get out of the
house! Our first stop was Daigre Lake where we found an American
Pipit...seems a little late for this species to still be here!

Next it was off to Lathrop State Park where we saw:
A Northern Mockingbird - again seems a little late in the year for these....
Merlin (finally managed to get a "decent" shot of this bird)
A Northern Shrike
We did re-locate the Pacific Loon we first reported on 11/15 after a bit
of searching. While before it tended to stay all by itself and close to
shore, today it was mixed in with the Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneye,
assorted grebes and Ring-billed Gulls way out in the middle of Martin Lake.

Good birding!
