Overall it was a very slow birding day for most groups and the totals for many common species will be very low. However there are some highlights worthy of note. All the results are not in yet but the numbers for Common Redpolls and Wild Turkeys are approaching triple digits; at least four different flocks of each were seen. Ptarmigan were observed in two locations over 12 miles apart by brave hiking groups. The four unusual sparrows seen during Count Week were also seen on Count day: an American Tree Sparrow, a Song Sparrow, a Harris's Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow. Most unusal was a siting of a TURKEY VULTUE which was sen by four people. At the moment the total number of species seen is at 50 which is a little higher than average. The biggest misses so far are Dusky Grouse, accipitors, Pine Grosbeak, Evening Grosbeak and Rosy-Finches.
