Hi all, There was a Downy Woodpecker (Eastern Race) at the suet feeder yesterday (FOYR). Today Thursday at 9:05 AM no birds must be a hawk, oops it is right there sitting at the edge of the chokecherry tree. A Coopers Hawk with its back to me. It had a line of small white patches on right side of back with a similar line on line on left side. Its long tail was gray fully closed and when open some it show the many broad black stripes. It turned its head slowly often from side to side. I am sure it saw me inside at the window. A Chickadee came well to back and moved down and back and forth and on to the ground . The Hawk ignored it-- too small. I took a picture. I scratched on the screen and finally tapped it and the Hawk slowly spread it wings and swooped down low across the ground and up into the Olive tree and disappeared. After breakfast I watched the battle for the suet block in the Olive tree.

There was a male Flicker on it and soon 5 Starlings came and the Flicker pecked at them driving them away. Another Flicker came and it too was driven away and and chased off. The male Flicker came back to the suet quickly but gave up and left it to several Starlings.

About 100 Redwing BB came to check out the seeds on the cable drum feeder. Got to get some work done!

Busy around here today.
