Adams County:

-- On January 8, Gilbert reported 6 Barrow's Goldeneye (3m, 3f) on the S
Platte by the water tank S of 88th and Colorado.

-- On January 10, Erthal reports that 8 Rusty Blackbirds continue on the
South Platte River.  They were north of the Denver Metro Wastewater outflow
near the confluence of Sand Creek.

 

Boulder County:

--On January 12, Thomas Heinrich reports the Northern Cardinal in his yard
near the intersection of 3rd and Forest.  You can call him at (303) 475-0465
for information.

--On January 10, Walbek and Kilpatrick report 11 Tundra Swans at Valmont
Reservoir.  Erthal reports that they continue there on January 12.

--On January 11, Deininger reports 20-25 Common Redpolls as well as a Swamp
Sparrow west of 75th on Boulder Creek.

--On January 13, Tumasonis reports a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on Brockway
Dr., 1 1/2 blocks west of 76th in Boulder.

--On January 12, Deininger reports 2 Chihuahuan Ravens in Longmont.

--On January 13, Guarente reports that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and a
Harris's Sparrow continue on the Teller Farms Trail.

 

Delta County:

--On January 12, Cheryl Day reports 50 Gray-crowned and 5 Black Rosy-Finches
feeding on her porch in Hotchkiss.  Brown-capped were also present.

 

El Paso County:

--On January 13, multiple observers report the ACORN WOODPECKER continues in
SW Colorado Springs in the 1804 - 1810 section of Cheyenne Blvd.

--On January 12, Pals reports a Harris's Sparrow at the Fountain Creek RP
Nature Center feeders and the Winter Wren is best found near Mile Marker 18
on the regional trail just north of North Rice's Pond.

 

Fremont County:

--An ad male EURASIAN WIGEON first found on the Penrose CBC at Centennial
Park in Canyon City is reported by Chavez continuing on January 6.

 

Jefferson County:

--Henwood reported on November 26 that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was found
at Red Rocks Trading Post. Harris reports it continues on January 13.  

--On January 8 Kibbe reports 2 White-winged Doves in his yard on West Quarto
Ave. in Littleton.

--On January 14, Santangelo reports about 8 Common Redpoll coming to his
feeder in Wheat Ridge.  His address is: 3525 Estes St. (two blocks north of
Crown Hill Lake and two blocks south of 38th Ave).  You may park in front of
the driveway but please do not park in the driveway and please stay in your
car to observe the Redpolls.

 

Garfield County:

--On January 12, Filby reports a Common Redpoll at his feeder in Carbondale.

 

Grand County:

--On January 11, Forrest Luke reports that he found the following in
Kremmling: The feeders at 914 Eagle still had the 30 redpolls (presumably
Common).  Around 200 rosy finches of all three species split time between
feeders in this neighborhood and a feeder at 911 Gore Avenue. The Gore Ave
feeder also had 20 or so redpolls coming in. Finally, a feeder probably
located on 6th Street between Grand and Range Ave had at least 80 redpolls.

 

Larimer County:

--On January 14, Sparks reports 2 HOARY REDPOLL and 90 Common Redpoll behind
the Discovery Museum in Ft. Collins, located at Cherry and Mason St which is
the NW corner of College and Cherry.  Multiple observers have seen HOARY
REDPOLL at this location since December 23 when Komar photographed Redpolls
here.  

--On January 10, Walbek and Kilpatrick report 2 Trumpeter Swans at Lower
Hoffman Lake in Loveland which were previously reported by Mlodinow.  They
were still present on January 13 as reported by Miller.

--On January 12, Teuton reports 35 Bohemian Waxwings at the Discovery
Museum.

--On January 13, Miller reports 100 Bohemian Waxwings in a flyover of
Grandview Cemetery in Ft. Collins.

 

Logan County:

--On January 13, at Tamarack Ranch, Mlodinow reports a Carolina Wren and 8
Common Redpolls.

 

Mesa County:

--On January 14, Dexter reports 8 Common Redpoll at feeders just east of the
intersection of CO-65 and Mesa County KE Rd about 1/4 mile from the
intersection.  The feeders are on the north, left, side of the road.  Look
for a white trailer with blue trim.  The feeders are on the west side of the
trailer and easy to view from KE Rd.

 

Moffat County:        

--On January 11, Litteral reports at least 47 Barrow's Goldeneye on the open
pond along Hwy. 13  a couple miles south of Craig.

 

Pitkin County:

--10 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches were reported by Filby at Snowmass ski area
on January 9.

 

Pueblo County:

--On January 10, at the Sailboard Launch of Pueblo Reservoir, Percival
reports Pacific Loon, Red-throated Loon, an adult Mew Gull and a male
Barrow's Goldeneye.  At the South Marina Komar reports that the Great
Black-backed Gull and a 1st-cyc Glaucous Gull continue on January 13.

 

Weld County:

--On January 14, Sheeter reports an adult Harris's Sparrow off of CR 52 near
Lower Latham Reservoir and a White-throated Sparrow on CR 54.

Meet the leader at 8:00 am at the Swim beach. This will be a HALF DAY trip.
Be prepared to walk trails and dress for the predicted weather. Bring your
scope if you have one. Lunch is optional.

Sunday, Jan. 20 Allenspark and Lyons

Leaders: Niña Routh (303) 987-8687 and Mike Serruto

Meet the leaders at 8:30am at the southwest side of the Wagon Road RTD Park
and Ride., 120th Ave. (from I-25) and Huron (less than 0.5 miles west of
I-25). Or the Boulder County or north- and west-siders, and any others can
meet at the parking lot near the public restrooms in Sandstone Park in Lyons
by 9:30. Dress for winter conditions as there is always the chance of snow.
We’ll be walking approximately 3 miles throughout the day. Plan on a traipse
around the Fawnbrook Inn and area looking for the illusive rosy finches and
assorted winter species. Last year’s highlights included evening grosbeaks &
Clark’s nutcrackers. The group will head towards Lyons looking for shrikes &
eagles along the way and visit Oskar Blues for lunch. Lunch will be followed
by a walk along the river in Lyons in search of riparian species.
