Hello all,

This is my first post; I've been following over at the digest site but I've
seen a few interesting things and decided to finally post.

I was walking around Evergreen Lake tonight near sunset, and despite how
cold it is up here at 7000 ft, I saw an American dipper, a belted
kingfisher, and most surprising, a lonely female WOOD DUCK tagging along
with a pair of mallards. She's the only one there and seems to be staying
with the mallard flock for safety; I know these aren't amazingly rare here
in the summer, but this time of year she really should have vacated for
warmer climes!

All of these sightings were in the creek downstream of the big waterfall,
which is still partially unfrozen, all the way past the tunnel into
downtown Evergreen. You can either park at the lakehouse and walk to the
opposite side of the lake or park in downtown Evergreen and pick up the
creek path where it goes behind the Baskin Robins. The bird count board on
the marsh boardwalk area near the lakehouse indicates that a northern
shrike has been seen recently as well, though I did not see it.

I have two older sightings as well, which I delayed reporting due to
uncertainty, but I figure they should still be shared:

-A Harris's Sparrow at the Red Rocks trading post feeders on 1/6 that I am
about 95% sure on; if anyone could confirm it that would be fantastic.

-A VERY LOST black-legged kittiwake at the South Platte River birding area,
near 88th, on 1/4. This one, I am only unsure of because of how very out of
its range we are; the field marks were pretty unambiguous.
