At 10:30 this morning a large flock of apparent Bohemian Waxwings (about
400 birds) flew over the road in front of my car.  My looks were brief but
the lighting was excellent, and I was pretty sure of the ID, given the size
of the birds (large for waxwings) and their multicolored, dark-vented
look.  The birds looked pretty uniform in coloration but I can't swear
there weren't some Cedars mixed in.  They were headed north over
Independence Road right at Hayden Lake.  This is just east of the
intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway, and just
northwest of the airport.  It's only a few blocks from where Brian Guarente
reported probable Bohemians the other day.  It was also very close to the
Cottonwood Trailhead, so if you're interested in looking for these birds, I
suspect your best bet is to park at the trailhead and head north along the
Cottonwood Trail (map:
