Greetings All,
I have finally gotten pics (with ID commentary) of today's minima Cackling Goose up on my Flickr Site. They can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/36088296@N08/ Note that there are some reference photos that precede photos of the actual bird... There was not a FLOCK of minima present :o) Windsor Lake is alive with birds. Hundreds of Common Mergs and Common Goldeneye, dozens of RB Mergansers, an immature LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, a THAYER'S GULL. I did wonder where the White Pelicans were... apparently all at Panama Reservoir. Oh yes, one male Cinnamon Teal standing on ice with Canada Geese and RB Gulls. Other highlights include the long-staying TUNDRA SWAN at Jackson Reservoir (best viewed from the SWA parking area on north side). Jackson was pretty impressive today, with 2000+ Redhead, many thousand Canada Geese, 2 Snow x Canada Geese, a Snow x Ross's Goose, 400+ Canvasback.... Also of interest was the utter lack of gulls and very low numbers of mergansers... basically, very few fish-eaters on Jackson, likely indicating a lack of piscine prey. Some dinky ponds at nearby Andrick Ponds had more Common Mergs.
